 | Jordanian filmmaker Sandra Madi draws a portrait of young boxing champion, Faraj Darwish, whose once promising career seems suspended in oblivion. An unlikely and against all odds hero, Darwish, born and living in the al-Baqa‘a Palestinian refugees camp in Jordan, earned the title of Arab boxing champion in Algeria, in 2004, when he was a mere 21 years of age. Since that victory, he has been dreaming of competing for the Olympic title, but in the year 2006, Darwish was barred from competing officially because he refused to fight an Israeli boxer at an international championship competition in Turkey. The Jordanian Federation issued a ban on his participation for life, and Darwish has carried the brunt of that penalty, powerless and bitter. Madi has been working in the research and production of documentaries, and has recently graduated from the Arab Institute for Film in Amman where she developed and produced Full Bloom. |
